Abstract
En esta investigación se analizó la categoría del turismo de reuniones por medio del estudio de los factores, elementos y requisitos para la inclusión en el estándar de la Certificación para la Sostenibilidad Turística (CST) del Instituto Costarricense de Turismo (ICT), con el propósito de analizar si es necesaria dicha inclusión en el estándar CST.
La metodología de esta investigación se desarrolló bajo estudio descriptivo con matices explicativos, con un enfoque de modalidad mixta (cualitativo y cuantitativo), en la cual se trabajó en siete etapas investigativas.
Este análisis fue aplicado a miembros del Costa Rica Convention Visitors Bureau; se utilizaron dos instrumentos de investigación: un cuestionario tipo censo aplicado a los afiliados que no cuentan con la CST y entrevistas a profundidad a cuatro personas expertas en el sector del turismo de reuniones.
Los resultados evidenciaron que existe una necesidad de inclusión del turismo de reuniones como categoría en el estándar de la Certificación para la Sostenibilidad Turística del ICT, como una forma de estandarizar, profesionalizar y fortalecer el crecimiento de desarrollo sostenible del turismo de reuniones, así como mejorar el posicionamiento de Costa Rica como un destino innovador y transformador del turismo sostenible en la industria turística.
Por lo tanto, se concluyó que, el sector del turismo de reuniones en Costa Rica requiere una certificación que cobije las acciones encaminadas al desarrollo sostenible de las empresas relacionadas con el turismo de reuniones, y abra paso a oportunidades de diferenciación y competitividad de actividades del turismo de reuniones tanto nacional e internacionalmente. Lo anterior, con el fin de que exista sinergia en las actividades turísticas del país, mediante encadenamientos productivos para la consolidación estratégica público-privado del desarrollo turístico sostenible.

This analysis was applied to members of the Costa Rica Convention Visitors Bureau; two research instruments were used: a census-type questionnaire applied to members who do not have the CST and in-depth interviews with four experts in the meeting tourism sector. The results showed that there is a need for inclusion of meeting tourism as a category in the ICT Tourism Sustainability Certification standard, as a way to standardize, professionalize and strengthen the growth of sustainable development of meeting tourism, as well as improve the positioning of Costa Rica as an innovative and transformative destination of sustainable tourism in the tourism industry. Therefore, it is concluded that, the meeting tourism sector in Costa Rica requires a certification that shelters actions aimed at the sustainable development of businesses related to meeting tourism and open up opportunities for differentiation and competitiveness of meeting tourism activities both nationally and internationally. In order to ensure synergy in the country’s tourism activities, through productive linkages for strategic public-private consolidation.
